Inscription.

The current entrance gate was built in 1715 and is still original. On the street side, it features the old and the new city coat of arms. Until the Dutch Golden Age, the old coat of arms was used: a shield with a cog (ship). On the ship are Bishop Guy of Avesnes, a merchant, and a dog. The dog is a symbol of loyalty. On the right-hand column is the current city coat of arms with the three Andreas crosses.

On the garden side, we can see two family coats of arms: that of the Pancras family and that of the Hooft family. These coats of arms were put up by the then commissioners Gerbrand Pancras and Gerrit Hooft. The tops of the columns are decorated with stone vases, intended for one agave plant each.
