The Westboro Rail Yard Put West Lebanon on the Map

The Westboro Rail Yard was built in 1848 and in use until the 1970s, when it was abandoned by the Boston and Maine Railroad. The West Lebanon station was renamed "Westboro" to avoid confusion with other stations after a deadly train occident. The parcel was purchased by the State of NH in 1998, and since 2000 there have been efforts in Lebanon to repurpose portions of the rail yard for public use. This resulted in the demolition of the derelict and dangerous railroad buildings in 2021, and plans are in motion to build trails and a waterfront park along the river in West Lebanon.
