1. Ramos Residence Marker

Inscription.
Florencio Ramos (1861-1931), saxophonist, clarinetist, and flautist, lived here at 4505 Dryades Street from 1929 until 1931. He arrived in New Orleans for the World’s Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition in 1884, with the famous Eighth Cavalry Mexican Band under the direction of Sig. Encarnacion Payen. He toured with the Mexican Band, the eventually settled in N.O. & played in opera and theater orchestras. After touring with the Innes Band, he played with his own groups & then with Tony Parenti, Charlie Fishbein, and Emile Tosso’s Concert Band. He was a teacher of woodwind & stringed instruments, & is considered by many to be N.O. first resident saxophonist.
