1. Opernstraße Marker
Inscription.  German:

English:
In front of the building at Opernstraße 16 there were three fire destructions. Two of them took place in the 15th century: The first one was caused by the invasion of the Hussite's in 1430, the second one was caused by a siege in 1480; a smaller fire furthermore occured in 1605. The excavation of a grindstone proves the existence of a craftsmen district at the periphery of the city. The prove of human population outside of the city wall was not an individual case. This was proven by numerous findings at a length of 45 Meter exvacation along the Opernstraße.

Reverse Side
In 2015/2016 the redevelopment of the city center reached Opernstraße. It turned out to be a lucky strike for archaeology, despite significant difficulties in the beginning. As weather conditions led to several floodings, especially in front of the opera. A massive fire layer of a wooden building from the 14th century was already visible in front of the former opera café. This clearly contradicted an opinion that here in front of the city moat were only findings from the 17th century expected.

English Translation - The excavations in Opernstrasse were initially met with great skepticism. Nothing more than the foundations of the buildings in the upper part of the street were to be expected.
