Perote Cemetery
Bullock County
This cemetery has existed since settlers arrived in the 1830s. Landowner Samuel Hixon wanted the grounds kept for interment, and an indenture was made on August 20, 1857, by Hixon and five trustees. Since then, those who provided history and upkeep were Martha Crossley, Imogene Walker. Fannie Lawson. Minnie McLester, Bessie Rumph, Joe Brabham, Dwight Hixon, Mack Hixon, and John Rumph. Today, five trustees of the Perote Cemetery Association continue the mission. As of 2022, 370 persons are interred, and their graves mapped.
