The Nature Museum
The Nature Museum building was erected in 1934 as a Federal Government WPA project and was designed by WPA architect Paul Robinette. The building consisted of a main display room for animal, bird and insect mounts and learning center The numerous displays were very high quality and professional. Another room was used as a laboratory for study purposes and the third room was used as an office and work room for museum camp staff. Nature study was a first class operation at camp and a number of eventual scientists and college professors received their initial nature training at the Camp Miakonda Nature Museum. Among them were Dr. Seymour Van Gundy, Dr. Carl Helms and Dr. Dennis Forsythe. Lou Klewer, Toledo Blade Outdoor Editor, was a mentor and an avid supporter of the nature program at Miakonda. The reptile and mammal pits were also part of the Nature Museum operation as was a screened in building used to display larger animals. When summer camp operations ended at Miakonda in 1972, the museum ceased to operate and the building fell into disrepair. In 1995 the building was renovated into a sleeping cabin as a service project of the Tindeuchen O.A. Lodge. The project took place over a two year period ending in 1997. It was renamed Tindeuchen Cabin in honor of the Order of the Arrow Lodge that saved

Paul E. Reinbolt
Paul Reinbolt spent 31 years as an Eagle Scout. camp director and Scouting professional in our Council. He joined Scouting in Toledo in 1927. He served on Miakonda's summer camp staff from 1945-1948 as Camp Director. Mr. Reinbolt was on the National Staff for volunteer training and was an early Woodbadge participant and proponent nationally. He served as a National Woodbadge Course Director in 1955. He organized the first Toledo Council Woodbadge Course at Camp Miakonda in 1962. He served as our Council Executive for 15 years, from 1959-1974, longer than any other person, until his retirement. He saw the need for a larger summer camp facility in our Council and oversaw the creation and development of Pioneer Scout Reservation in the 1960's. Using long term personal relationships he had developed in the business community in Northwest Ohio, he handpicked and personally recruited the various committee members needed to find a suitable location within a reasonable driving distance from Toledo and raise the funds needed to pay for it. His committee came up with a comprehensive plan to secure the land at the lowest price possible and develop the acreage into a camp. He considered the creation of Pioneer Scout Reservation to be one of the greatest accomplishments of his Scouting career.
