3. Andrew Howell Harriss, M.D. (1872-1956)
He served aboard the U.S. Navy's Nantucket during the Spanish-American War, and as post surgeon at Fort Caswell in World War I. He also was a member of the North Carolina National Guard for 16 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
