1. Old Grade Road Marker
Inscription. As you make your way up the trail, imagine yourself as one of the early settlers in the late 1870's following the original wagon route. The Old Grade served as the main road to and from Wessington Springs for many years until the present Highway 34 was built. The original road was on the north side of the draw and tended to be full of snow in the winter, so it was decided that the road be moved to the south side of the draw. Water running down the old road has exposed tree roots as you can see here.
