1. A Mansion of Many Colors Marker

Inscription. "To each his own" they say and this is true of the mansion before you. Each of the primary owners have left their mark.

The Jones-Stewart Mansion was built between 1852 and 1854 by Albert Carroll Jones. The Stewarts made extensive renovations to the house in the 1950's, removing a balcony and railing from over the front porch and adding a wing to the side.

The front of the mansion has had several colors throughout its history, from burgundy, to white, and even pink. Historic restoration work undertaken in the 1990s examined paint layers from the front's stucco material to determine the original color, which is currently displayed. The recent restoration work is a continuation of the Stewarts' mission to preserve the historical character of Chippokes for the enjoyment of future generations.
