1. Joseph Brant Hospital Marker
Inscription. Before the 1960s, Burlington residents in need of medical treatment had to travel to Hamilton or Toronto or hope that their family doctor could make house calls! Circumstances changed in 1961 when the Joseph Brant Hospital was opened after a long, community-led fundraising campaign. The current site for the Hospital was chosen over other options because it provided greater access for residents along established public transit routes within the downtown area.

The replica Joseph Brant House was originally built where the Hospital and parking lot are located to your right.

Additions made to the Hospital during the late 1960-70s caused the replica Brant House to be moved closer to its current location at the corner of Lakeshore Road and North Shore Boulevard.

Further additions to the Hospital have been made periodically since the 1970s. The seven-story Michael Lee-Chin & Family Patient Tower, which is beyond the Museum's parking lot, is the Hospital's most recent expansion project, opening in 2017.
