The Landing in Shakopee in Scott County, Minnesota — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
What's the Buzz?
These strange looking homes are hive boxes for honeybees! People have harvested honey and beeswax for thousands of years. Like many other farm animals, honeybees were imported to Minnesota. The bees in manmade beehives are used to produce honey for food, create beeswax, and to pollinate nearby crops. The honey is a delicious energy boosting treat and the beeswax makes candles to light homes past and present.
What Do They Eat?
Honeybees eat pollen and nectar from flowers. Prairies, gardens, clover, and dandelions are nearby for these bees.
