Inscription.
This early Florida community, settled in 1835, was part of Seminole Indian Chief Emathla’s hunting grounds.

It grew from establishment of Baptist Church in 1844, F. & A.M. Lodge 53 in 1862, public school in 1873, and Woodmen of the World Camp 498 in 1914. It was the boyhood home of Richard Ervin, life long Woodman, former Attorney General, and Chief Justice Supreme Court of Florida.
