1. Belair Mansion Marker

Inscription.

Belair was built circa 1740 by Samuel Ogle, Governor of Maryland. Through the years the mansion became known as the "House of Governors" because governors Thomas Bladen, Benjamin Tasker Sr., Benjamin Ogle I, Oden Bowie and Christopher Lowndes were also associated with it at different times.

Erected 1968 by Maryland Historical Society.

A transient panel on display at the county's "Juneteenth" (national end of slavery) celebration in Watkins Regional Park, recognizing the long co-existence of Belair Mansion's White gentry and their enslaved Black servants - as well as the "significant role of African American jockeys" at the Belair Stables in the 18 and 1900s . . .
