1. Kempsville Pony-Colt Field Marker
Inscription. This land is the former home of athletic fields that hosted the Kempsville Pony Baseball program for 50 years. This "Field of Dreams" goes back to 1959 and helped develop talented players on the Kempsville High School teams that won four state baseball championships in six years during the 1970s. The adjacent stone marker identifies where Field #2's home plate was located, and the Field #1 home plate was located just west of the median on Princess Anne Road. As the center of this league sport for decades over thousands of ball games, the Kempsville Pony-Colt Field was also the hub for the community where families gathered together to engage in camaraderie, teamwork and sportsmanship - and to enjoy a post-game treat at the neighboring High's Ice Cream parlor.
