Inscription. Sarah Allen was grieving the loss of two children and had recently recovered from cholera herself when she bade farewell to her husband, Ezra. A miscommunication with merchants left her without provisions, and she chose to stay behind when her wagon company continued moving west. When another family came to her camp, decided to stay, and shared their food and shelter with her, Sarah said, "The Lord raised me up friends in the hour of need."
