Straßen im römischen Köln
Mindestens drei Staatsstraßen erreichten Köln Die Limesstraße wurde in der Stadt zum cardo maximus, der wichtigsten Nord-Süd-Achse (heute Hohe Straße). Die Via Belgica durchquerte die Stadt von West nach Ost ala decumanus maximus (heute Schildergasse). Im Schriftpunkt der beiden Straßen lag das Forum, der zentrale Platz der Stadt. Zu diesen innerstädtischen Hauptstraßen orientierten sich alle anderen Straßen in einem rechtwinkligen System, so such die Hafenstraße neben dem heutigen Römisch-Germanischen Museum. In Köln ist sie heute die einzige noch begehbare Römerstraße mit originalem Pflaster aus Basaltsäulen. Brunnen und Gully solien im Nachbau ein typisches Straßenbild vorstellen. It is the only accessible Roman road in present-day Cologne with original paving stones.
