1. The Brookfield Oak Savanna Marker
Inscription.
You are entering an oak savanna, an open woodland habitat between grasslands and forests.

A disappearing treasure
Oak savannas were a large part of the American landscape for many centuries. Today they are one of the rarest ecosystems in the world. They are part of our natural heritage, and need our protection.

Native plants and animals
The Brookfield Oak Savanna has a wide variety of plants native to this area. These plants provide food and shelter that attract and sustain our native animals. Cooper's hawks nest here, redheaded and downy woodpeckers search for food, butterflies sip nectar, chipmunks play, and migrating songbirds pass through.
