Guilford Center in South Central Region, Connecticut — The American Northeast (New England)
Third Congregational Church
1844
Rev. Aron Dutton and 123 members of the First Congregational Church, passionate abolitionists, were granted dismissal from that congregation. They built this structure, which served as the Third Congregational Church until 1920. In the 1930s and 1940s, it was Chapel Playhouse, a summer theater. Many famous actors performed here. The Christian Science Society acquired the building in 1951 and restored it as their church.
