Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve in Oak Brook in DuPage County, Illinois — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
The Men of V-1668
Century Trail
Most of the men were veterans of World War I. Their first job was to construct the camp's temporary barracks, which housed up to 200 enlistees. They built the boathouse in front of you (today's visitor center) and many of the bridges and shelters you pass along the trail. They worked at other forest preserves, too, constructing a picnic shelter at York Woods and shelters, a dam and fire rings at Waterfall Glen.
During the Great Depression the corps provided much-needed work for over 3 million unemployed men nationwide.
Erected by Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

Excerpt: "Members of the CCC lived in barracks on their worksite at camps run by the Army, where they were clothed, fed and paid $30 dollars a month, $25 of which was sent directly to their families. They received training, education and developed skillsets in trades to help them be employable in the future. Individual camps were part of a larger, local CCC community; camps produced their own monthly newspapers and networked with other local camps, even competing against each other in sports leagues."(Submitted on January 17, 2025, by Sean P.
