Bertha Claes née Kassan was born on February 13, 1911 in Denmark. She came to Norway in 1916. As an adult, Bertha worked in a factory. In 1937, she married Daniel Claes (b. 1905 in Resekne, Latvia). The following year, they had their son Jan.(Submitted on January 23, 2025.)
Bertha was arrested on November 26, 1942, together with her four-year-old son. They were deported on the D/S Donau the same day. Her husband Daniel was also on this transport. Upon arrival at Auschwitz on December 1, 1942, Bertha was sent directly to the gas chamber with her son.
Bertha's mother, two sisters and a brother were also deported and killed in Auschwitz.
