Inscription.
A church was installed in around the 5th-6th century AD in the atrium and peristyle court built by Domitian (AD 81-96) in the Forum. It was accessed from the atrium with niches in the walls used as an entrance hall; the peristyle court behind the atrium became the nave and the original porticoes were reused as the narthex and aisles. At the back were three rooms; the central room, with an apse, was used as the presbytery. Inside, the superimposed remains of an important fresco cycle are preserved; it dates to between the 6th and 9th century AD, when the church was partially abandoned after an earthquake in AD 847.
