Inscription.  Italian:

English:
In the late 19th century, Pietro Rosa concentrated his investigations on the north side of the Domus Tiberiana, facing the Roman Forum and here, he informs us, "We found the main front of the Palace that can be attributed to the house of Caligula... This 16-meter-high facade, decorated with two rows of arches, contains a loggia above the first, with an elegant openwork marble parapet... and still preserves rich remains of stucco ornaments and paintings".

The so-called Bridge of Caligula is actually a loggia of the Domitian era attributed, by its discoverer, to the emperor Caligula, on the basis of a statement in Suetonius, who recounts that the emperor built a bridge over the temple of the Divine Augustus to join the Palatine to the Capitol, where he erected a new Domus (Suet., Cal., XXII).

In reality, after Nero's death the palace was profoundly modified: the north wing was given a loggia with high and narrow rooms decorated with black and white geometric mosaics, paintings and stuccoes.

The balustrade of the so-called Bridge of Caligula was integrated by restoration in the late nineteenth century: a reconstruction of its original decorations
