1. Chiesa di San Sebastiano / Church of San Sebastiano Marker
In vicinanza dei resti del monumentale accesso alla Vigna (Pentapylum?) sorge la chiesa di S. Sebastiano, che poggia in parte sul lastricato del tempio. Gli "Atti del martirio di S. Sebastiano" riferiscono infatti che il Santo, condotto davanti a Diocleziano, lo apostrofς stando super gradus Heliocabuli" ("sulle gradinate di Elagabalo"). Ricordata nei documenti fin dal X secolo, conserva di quest'epoca la importantissima decorazione pittorica dell'abside; il resto andς perduto nella ristrutturazione che Urbano VIII Barberini ne fece nel 1624.
The Church of S. Sebastian lies close to the remains of the monumental entrance to the Vigna (Pentapylum?), and in part is built over the paving of the temple. The 'Acts of the Martyr Saint Sebastian' relate that the Saint, brought before Diocletian, addressed him standing "super gradus Heliocabuli" ('on the staircase of Elagabalus'). Recorded in documents since the 10th century, the church preserves from that period only the important painted decoration of the apse. The rest was destroyed during its rebuilding by Pope Urban VIII Barberini in 1624.
