1. Casa Aurea di Nerone / Nero's Golden House Marker
Inscription.  Italian:

English:
"View of the remains of the Tablinum of Nero's Golden House, commonly called the Temple of Peace"; 1757, from Vedute di Roma (views of Rome).

Piranesi's etchings dedicated to the Basilica of Maxentius, confused at the time with the Domus Aurea and with the Temple of Peace, would become a point of reference for generations of landscape artists to come. In his caption at the bottom of the print, Piranesi notes that the colossal column erected in front of St. Mary Major in 1613 originated from this site; of the eight columns originally present in the central nave of the basilica, it was the only one to have remained intact.

«Piranesi's PArCo» is a tour through the PArCo of the views captured by the great Venetian architect, organized in celebration of the 300th anniversary of his birth.
