Inscription.  Italian:

English:
Before the fire in the reign of Nero the house of the Vestals had a different shape, size and orientation. The oldest surviving structure dates to the 6th century BC; it was then rebuilt from tuff blocks in the 3rd century BC, and redesigned in the late Republic-early Empire. Recent excavations have revealed a hut dating to the mid-8th BC century. This may have been the earliest home of the priestesses.

The House of the Vestal Virgins (Latin: Atrium Vestae; Italian: Casa delle Vestali) was the residence of Vestal Virgins, located behind the circular Temple of Vesta at the eastern edge of the Roman Forum, between the Regia and the Palatine Hill. The domus publica, where the Pontifex Maximus dwelled, was located near the Atrium until that role was assumed by the emperors.
