More about this marker. In 1870, the Papal States were annexed to the Kingdom of Italy after the Franco-Prussian War, and a plebiscite (a popular vote) was held in various regions to ratify the annexation. The "Dantista" label might be an allusion to a specific cultural or political group at that time, possibly linked to intellectual or literary circles that were involved in the broader nationalist movement, but this isn't a widely used term in mainstream historical texts. It was a vote held to confirm the annexation of the Papal States into the newly unified Kingdom of Italy.
