2. The Pine Forest Cemetery. Wilmington commissioners first procured a burial ground for the citys black population in 1860. But Pine Forest Cemetery on North 16th Street was likely used for that purpose for years before. The 15-acre cemetery has stones dating from the 1840s and 1850s.
