More about this memorial. Marker was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 17, 1997.
The monument was removed on December 29, 2021, by decision of The Presbyterian Church of Danville, on whose property it stood. Student and faculty advocacy from nearby Centre College had been a contributing factor. Only the cement foundation slab remains at the original location. The monument is reported to have been relocated to a museum in Meade County, Kentucky.
