| | Glensheen Historic Estate | |
Pictured is the south side of the Carriage House. The north side of the Carriage House was used as quarters for male employees and their families (if they had any).
Between 1908 and 1915, there were at least three men living in the Carriage House. The stableman/coachman Aaron Anderson (1906-1910) took care of animals and the stable area. The first houseman on record is Barney (last name unknown), who started employment in 1912. He was in charge of maintenance, pest control, and boiler/fireplace operations. Rudolph Miller, a driver/chauffeur and German immigrant, specialized in automobile and carriage transportation.

Rudolph Miller and the Congdons Pierce Arrow were shipped to England for a 1911 road trip in Europe.

From the National Register Nomination prepared by Michael Koop, 8/1990:
Carriage House, 1905-09, Clarence H. Johnston, Sr., architect. The Carriage House is a two-story, Flemish bond brick and false half-timber building located southeast of the house near the lake shore. It consists of a long, narrow section with its gable roof-oriented north-south flanked on both ends by west-facing ells. These three sections are divided into a carriage storage and maintenance area, a cow and horse stable with adjoining tack and grooming rooms, and living quarters for the coachman, maintenance man, and their families. The living quarters have had a few interior alterations, including converting the hay loft into a bedroom in the 1940s, and enlarging the kitchen around 1979.
