Rue Principale - Napoleonsstrooss
1806 Sandweiler 2011

D'Rue Principale zu Sandweiler gouf vun 1806 bis 1812 vun de Fransouse gebaut fir vun der Musel méi séier an d'Festung Lëtzebuerg ze kommen.
Virdru koum de Wee vun der Musel an d'Stad den Éiterbierg erop a goung duerch d'Itzigerstrooss iwwer de Scheedhaff an duerch Hamm an d'Festung.
D'Fransousen hunn d'Napoleonsstrooss nërdlech vun der Porkierch, déi 1758 schonns nördlech vum Duerf gebaut gi war, iwwer de Kapellebierg op den Cents gefouert.
Déi heiteg Rue Principale wor am Fong e Contournement, mee ganz séier si laanscht d'Strooss Haiser gebaut ginn an d'Duerf Sandweiler huet sech a Richtung Norden entweckelt.
De Wee iwwert de Kapellebierg an d'Stad ass bliwe bis 1951. Du gouf dëse Wee zougemaach wéinst der Piste vum Flughafe Findel.
Enn 1952 ass déi nei Lëtzebuerger Strooss laanscht d'Kontrollstatioun ageweit ginn.
An de 70zeger Joer sinn an der Rue Principale Trottoiren a nei Infrastrukturleitunge komm.

Geplangt war d'Erneierung vun der Rue Principale an der Duerfplaz ënnert dem Buergermeeschter John Breuskin an de Schäffe Simone Massard-Stitz a Paul Ruppert, fäerdeg goufen d'Aarbechten ënnert dem Buergermeeschter Charles Unsen a de Schäffe Paul Ruppert a Jacqueline Breuer.

Feierlech ageweit goufen d'Duerfplaz an d'Duerfstrooss de 17. September 2011.

Main Street
Rue Principale - Napoleon Street
1806 Sandweiler 2011

The Rue Principale in Sandweiler was built by the French from 1806 to 1812 to provide a faster route from the Moselle to the Luxembourg fortress. Previously, the route from the Moselle to the city went up the Éiterberg and went through the Itziger Street, over the Scheedhaff and through Hamm to the fortress.
The French routed the Napoleon Street north of the parish church, which had already been built north of the village in 1758, over the Kapellebierg to the Cents.
Today's Rue Principale was basically a bypass, but houses were built along the road very quickly and the village of Sandweiler developed towards the north. The route over the Kapellebierg to the city remained until 1951. Then this route was closed due to the runway of Findel Airport.
At the end of 1952, the new Luxembourg Road was inaugurated along the control station.
In the 1970s, sidewalks and new infrastructure lines were added to Rue Principale.
Since 1957, renovation work has been carried out around the church:

Icarus well was created, the old school became the community center, the cultural center was built, the community center was expanded, and the community square was created as a Roman garden.
Since the "An de Braaken Reesweier/Kreintgeshaff" bypass opened in 2004, a new Sandweiler village center has been planned.
The building administration has made plans for the renewal of the road: a narrow lane for cars, wide sidewalks and a bike path from one end of the road to the other.
Architect Bob Strotz presented the plan for the village square in May 2005: In the village center, near the cultural center, the church, the churchyard, the church square and the town square, near the post office, banks and shops and opposite the senior citizens' homes "A Botterjangs" and "A Schmëttges" and the Massard house, where the local club building and the clubhouse "An der Gässel" used to stand, this place was created as a meeting place for the people of Sandweiler and their clubs. The council named it "Jemp Stein Village Square" in memory of Jean-Pierre Stein, who was the initiator of the new Sandweiler village center.
The renovation of Rue Principale and the village square was planned under Mayor John Breuskin and Aldermen Simone Massard-Stitz and Paul Ruppert, and the work was completed under Mayor Charles Unsen and Aldermen Paul Ruppert and Jacqueline Breuer.

The village square and the village street were officially inaugurated on September 17, 2011.
