On the morning of 14 April 1987, Sergeant Lucien Do Rego left his post as patrol leader with the mission of ensuring public safety and tranquility in the City of Luxembourg.
In the course of performing this service he was attacked and fatally wounded by three escaped criminals.

April 14, 1987 will not be forgotten by many. That morning, a law enforcement officer was shot dead in the(Submitted on February 26, 2025.)line of duty in a bar on Rue Josef Junk in the capital's train station district. Lucien Do Rego was shot by three serious criminals. The officer, who was 31 at the time, died of his serious injuries at the scene.
A memorial plaque has continued to commemorate the gendarmerie officer at the entrance to the train station since the end of 1987.
