It was in 1969 that the South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks purchased the property from John A. Samuelson family. The land was acquired to develop and increase environmental awareness in visitors, Beaver Creek Nature Area highlights natural and historical resources in the vicinity. The nature area offers a wide variety of wildlife viewing opportunities, along with hiking trails and an annual homesteader day.
