Chidren’s Home Society of Idaho
Historical Timeline
“I came to Idaho in April, 1908, and Governor Gooding called a meeting of some of the prominent social workers, where the different phases of the project were discussed. In a short time an organization was effected. Mrs. Cynthia A. Mann gave to the society a clock of land on Warm Springs Avenue, valued at that time at $25,000. On the place where our new building now stands, there was a six-room house, which has since been moved to a corner of the block. In it we opened the home on the 22nd day of July, 1908, and on the 29th of that month we received our first child.”
-O.P. Christian, 1913
Cynthia Mann was a life-long teacher and one of the Children’s Home Society’s original directors. She was devoted to enriching the lives of children and is remembered for her generosity and compassion. Until the current Children’s Home building was constructed, she taught at local schools and often taught classes in her own home.
