General en el jefe del ejército británico, aliado de España en la guerra de la independencia, a finales de Diciembre de 1808 pocos dias antes de morir, al frente de sus tropas, en la batalla de Elvina (La Coruña).

Sir John Moore, Commander in Chief of the British Army acting in alliance with that of Spain during the Peninsular War, lodged at this house in late 1808, just a few days before being killed whilst leading his troops at the Battle of Corunna.
Spain and Astorga are grateful for the glory of his memory and that of his valiant soldiers.
