1. Monterey Hospital Marker
Inscription. Dr. C.A. Collins came to Monterey in 1946 from Wilder, Tennessee where he had worked as a camp physician at the Wilder coal mines for almost a score of years. Upon arriving in Monterey, he formed a partnership with local physician T.M. Crain and the two men constructed a two-story hospital building on Commercial Avenue. The Monterey Hospital opened in October of 1948. Dr. Collins and Crain practiced medicine there until December of 1972 at which time it closed.
