The Court Pharmacy owes its founding to Landgrave Friedrich III Jacob of Hesse-Homburg, the son of Frederick II "with the Silver Leg."(Submitted on March 12, 2025.)
The decision to authorize another pharmacy in the town of just under 1,200 inhabitants, in addition to the existing pharmacy "Zum Engel," had already been made by the previous Landgrave couple and the city fathers, but the project was delayed. It wasn't until 1716 that pharmacist Zacharias Müller, who came from Württemberg, applied for a privilege in Homburg.
Before the permit was granted, he was required to build a combined residential and commercial building in the "Neustadt," the residential district for court officials that was under development.
Müller acquired a plot of land at Dorotheenstrasse, currently Number 10, and immediately began construction. The two-story house with the mansard roof cost 3,000 guilders and corresponded to its elegant surroundings and proximity to the castle.
