Inscription.
It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead. That they may be loosed from sins.

More about this memorial. The memorial obelisk is surrounded by four statues representing three branches of the U.S. military as well as "Haller's Army," which consisted of 20,000 Polish-American men who fought for Polish independence during World War I. The names of war dead are etched around the sides of the memorial aligned with each branch. The nearly 100-year-old memorial is in very good shape, although some of the etchings have eroded over time and can be hard to read.

Google Maps marks this memorial as the Polish American Army Memorial; other sources refer to it as the Polish American World War I Memorial or simply the World War I Memorial. The Catholic Cemeteries Chicago official website refers to it as the Veterans Shrine and list it among the cemetery's other shrines dedicated to saints and religious figures.

2. Haller's Army.
Excerpt: "'They' were known by different names -- The Haller Army, the Blue Army (Błękitna Armia), and also as the Polish Legion in France. This Blue Army (they wore horizon blue French uniforms) was the Polish contribution to the forces on the western front in WWI. They initially trained and fought under the French, but they fought in the name of Poland and for the ultimate goal of Polish independence. By the war's end this force was officially recognized as the independent Polish Army and their leader was General Jozef Haller (the former leader of the 2nd Polish Legion under the Austrians)."

10. Anthony Lubiewski
Anthony Lubiewski, a Polish American whose name is inscribed in the "Soldiers" section of this memorial, appears to have used the name Tony Lubeck during his service in the U.S. Army. According to a June 29, 1918, article in the Chicago Tribune about his death, Pvt. Lubeck was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions during battle in Catigny, France, on May 28, 1918. During the fight, he went on a mission to stop an enemy sniper who shooting down American forces. Lubeck was killed shortly after carrying out this mission, the paper said. Lubiewski is buried in Somme American Cemetery. The Tribune said his home address was 1218 N. Cleaver in the historically Polish West Town neighborhood of Chicago, about 10 miles southeast of this cemetery.
