Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist who is best known for developing the theory of relativity. Einstein also made important contributions to quantum mechanics. His mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2, which arises from special relativity, has been called "the world's most famous equation". His family moved to Munich shortly after his birth in 1880. From 1888, he attended the Luitpold-Gymnasium, now known as the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium. He was not considered highly gifted at all; some teachers accused him of his lack of respect rubbing off on his classmates. In 1885, he joined his family, who had already moved to Milan.
