Inscription. One of Chicago's most visually-striking educational buildings, this limestone-clad "skyscraper" was built to house a Catholic women's college. Now part of Loyola University, the Art Deco-style building was designed with strongly-geometric set-backs and "modernistic" ornament, including chevrons and abstract floral patterns. Statues flanking the front entrance, designed by Charles Fisher, represent the archangels Uriel "Light of God," carrying a cross-inscribed book, and Jophiel "Beauty of God," holding a torch of knowledge and celestial globe.
