This hat represents Company E of the 70th Ohio Volunteer Infantry which was formed locally and served in the Civil War mustering into military service on December 23, 1861 to August 14, 1865. This per-dated the beginnings of Seaman in 1882, but is an indication of the moral beliefs of the community that surrounded the future village.

George Carroll and Pete Gaston owned and operated a gas station on Main Street on the present site of Life Squad Station #2.

The train depot, Seaman Station, built in 1882. It was torn down in 1966. The Village of Seaman grew around the depot and was incorporated in 1911.

The Allison Building being constructed in 1911 after the disastrous fire of 1910 which nearly wiped out the business district. The building is still standing on State Route 247. It is the first building on the left south of the railroad tracks. It now houses Seaman Flower & Gift Shop.

These two buildings are also part of Business Row. They are on the southern end of the business strip. The building on the left was occupied by the I.N. Wickerham Pharmacy, later Thorp's Pharmacy in the 1960's and currently Fitzgerald's Pharmacy. The building on the right has a sign declaring it to offer, "Sharples Tubular Cream Separators." It was later Doak's Grocery, it has also been a restaurant, and it currently houses Budget Boutique. It is the wall directly behind this billboard.

This view is of the Dr. Otis U. Knechtly home and Dentist Office on Main Street where the Lions Club Park is now located, behind where you are standing.

Knights of Pythias Building, located on Tri County Road, next to the bank parking lot. Currently the Masonic Lodge is upstairs, and Just the Tease Salon and Seaman Barber Shop are on the ground floor.

The Barbershop and Laundry of W.A. Stephenson. The building is next door to Shreffier's Hardware on Tri County Road. Mr. Stephenson is forth from left in the white shirt.

Frank G. Young, a resident of Seaman and author of "A Town in The Makin', History of Seaman, Ohio" published in the early mid-1930's. This book presented the local and early history of Seaman. We owe him a great debt for saving our history in both word and pictures.

Greentee's Bakery, was located in the Shreffler's Hardware building, Employees and drivers are pictured across the street in front of a delivery truck.

Will Rogers, "The Black King of The Air" was a resident of Seaman. He was the only black hot air balloonist in the United States in the mid 1890's thru the early 1920's, according to reports of that time. He is aslo noted on the Ohio Historical Marker across the street in front of the 1st State Bank.

Pictured is Wendell Crawford, Winner of the 1954 Heavy Weight Tractor Pulling Contest, Seaman Street Fairm now known as Seaman Fall Festival. The other men are local Equipment Dealers.

Afta McCormick Lamison and her niece Ella McCormick Cornelius in front of Afta's Millinery Shop, around 1909. The shop was opened in 1898 on South Street across from the Lions Club Park. Ladies would ride the train from Cincinnati to buy their high-quality hats from her.

This covered bridge was located two miles north of Seaman on State Route 247 spanning the West Fork of Ohio Brush Creek. It was replaced by ODOT.

Mt. Leigh Presbyterian Church, originally located north of Seaman on State Route 247 where the Mt. Leigh Cemetery is still located. It was torn down and rebuilt in the Village in 1907 with a dedication on Easter Sunday, 1908. The church celebrated its 100th Anniversary in June, 1926, meaning its first services were held in June, 1826.

The Mt. Leigh School District No. 8, picture taken around 1905, was located northwest of Seaman on Greenlee Road, Scott Township. In 1912, it consolidated with the Seaman Village School.

Geeslin's Sohio Station, pictured in the 1960's, located at the intersection of State Route 247 and Tri County Road. It is still standing, but no longer used as a Service Station.

The Seaman Creamery was erected in 1908 on the northeast corner at Broadway and Fourth Street. The company bought fresh cream from local dairy farmers and made it into creamery butter. It was later used as an ice plant. The building was torn down around 1960.

Stephen Kelley (1949-2011) was a lifelong resident of Seaman, and a Historian and Author of many books, articles, and published "Ohio Southland, A Quarterly Journal Wxploring The Heritage of Southern Ohio" for four years or more. We thank Sthephen Kelly for his hard work saving irreplaceable one of a kind historical pictures and documenting historical facts that we have referenced in completing this project.
