The Old Schuyler Burying Ground. Schuyler Flatts Cultural Park. , A plot of land was set aside north of this lane to serve as a burial ground for the Schuyler family., Colonel Philip Schuyler's gravestone dated 1758 is the earliest and grandest of the remaining stones a stone tablet set on pillars. He was the grandson of the original Schuyler settler, the son of Albany's first mayor, and the husband of the famous Margarita Schuyler. Madame Schuyler who died in 1782 is assumed to have been buried by her husband's side, but her grave was not marked., In 1920 the Schuyler family, no longer living at the Flatts and concerned with the badly neglected condition of the cemetery, had a number of the remaining gravestones moved to the Albany Rural Cemetery near the monument of General Philip Schuyler (1733-1804), a commander in the Revolutionary War., [Boxed text.] , Records in 1874 show the cemetery contained more than 50 burials. Of the burials recorded in the 79 years from 1787 through 1865, nearly a third were children 10 years or younger.
