The Mechanics of the Sawmill

1. Mechanics Marker
The sawmill was a two story structure that utilized. a "flutter-wheel" design in which dammed water would be released beneath this bridge, follow the path of the blue pavers, and turn the main drive wheel from the bottom. A series of wooden gears would drive the reciprocating blade up and down, and a secondary water wheel would advance the log carriage towards the sawblade. The water would then be discharged back into Hulett's Branch. The technology was advanced for its time and at full operation the sawmill could cut up to 1500 feet of lumber per day.
