1. About Lake Park Marker

Inscription. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church acquired 7 acres of land in 1955 to build the church. The Des Plaines Park District purchased 2.92 acres from the church in 2007 and developed the property you are standing on in 2011.

The sale of this property to the Park District was a significant contribution to the recreational and green space in Des Plaines. Connecting the north park area with the rest of Lake Park ensures that the community will continue to enjoy this important resource for many years to come.

Lake Park includes a number of beautiful areas that are enjoyed year-round by everyone in Des Plaines.

2. About Lake Park Marker and the former Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

land in 2007, the Des Plaines Park District acquired the church itself in 2021, after the congregation had seen declining attendance. Good Shepherd's final services were held on Easter Sunday 2021. The building is now home to a restaurant called Foxtail on the Lake.
