Arthur C. Newby was a bicycle and automobile businessman who was one of the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His $15,000 gift allowed the volunteer centennial committee, headed by Richard Lieber, to buy the land for Turkey Run State Park after the committee had lost an auction for that land.
