1. Old School Square Marker

Inscription. The Old School Square site is the namesake of the locally and nationally designated Old School Historic Districts. It is also Individually listed to the National Register of Historic Places as the “Delray Beach Schools”. The adjacent buildings on the grounds of Old School Square, the Delray Beach Elementary School (c. 1913), the Delray Beach Highschool (c. 1925), and the Vintage Gymnasium (c. 1926) were restored and rehabilitated in the 1980s to house the Cornell Art Museum, Crest Theatre, and the Fieldhouse, respectively.

Old School Square is located in the center of downtown Delray Beach and thanks to community efforts, was preserved. The City purchased the property and rehabilitated the historic structures. A renaissance began for the city: a revival in both economic and social terms, based on Delray Beach's unique history and culture.

Old School Square is known as the city's "crown jewel" of historic resources and continues as a gathering space for a wide variety of cultural, social, art, and educational opportunities.
