Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro di Quaregna e Cerreto (1776-1856)

Born in Turin, Amedeo Avogadro studied law, became a lawyer, and had a legal practice until 1800. He then devoted himself to his great interests: physics and chemistry. In 1820, he was given the first chair for mathematical physics at the University of Turin. The scientist is known for Avogadro's law: equal quantities

of gas have the same number of molecules at the same pressure and temperature. Avogadro's number, which indicates how many atoms are in something, was also named after him. Logically, this number (written as NA by mathematicians) is very large: 6.02214076 x 1023.

Also see . . .  Amedeo Avogadro (Wikipedia). Overview:
Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro, Count of Quaregna and Cerreto (9 August 1776 – 9 July 1856) was an Italian scientist, most noted for his contribution to molecular theory now known as Avogadro's law, which states that equal volumes of gases under the same conditions of temperature and pressure will contain equal numbers of molecules. In tribute to him, the ratio of the number of elementary entities (atoms, molecules, ions or other particles) in a substance to its amount of substance (the latter having the unit mole), 6.02214076Χ1023 mol−1, is known as the Avogadro constant. This constant is denoted NA, and is one of the seven defining constants of the SI.
