2. Concord Massachusetts Civil War Memorial
New brass plaque, facing the west, re-dedicated on November 9.2024, Veterans Day Weekend. The newest name added was George Washington Dugan. On February 20, Dugan, 43, enlisted in the 54th Massachusetts, the first Black regiment to serve. He and 50 others were lost on July 18, 1863, in the battle of Fort Wagner, South Carolina. The town originally dedicated its Civil War monument on April 19, 1867, with 32 names. Updates came in 1883 and 1915, but Dugan was still not included. The latest initiative to update the monument was started in 2014 and was completed ahead of the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of the North Bridge, the beginning of the American Revolution on April 19, 2025.

This stone was taken from the footing of the original Old North Bridge and placed at the SouthWest foot of this monument to connect this Civil War Monument to the first Concord Battle of the American Revolution. The difficult to read hand carving has the words "1775 The North Bridge" (1775 North/The Bridge).
