Inscription.
Arbour House, Headquarters of the Irish United Nations Veteran Assocation, was originally the house of the Principal of the Garrison School during the British occupation. Later it was occupied by the caretaker who looked after the graveyard in Arbour Hill. In September 1992 the House was officially handed over (on lease) to IUNVA by the then Minister of State Mr. Noel Treacy, T.D. on behalf of the Office of Public Works.

The Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) was founded in 1989. Members of IUNVA are members or former members of the Defence Forces who served with the United Nations or on UN mandated missions. Ireland became a member of the United Nations in 1956. The first detachment of military personnel was deployed on peacekeeping duties to Lebanon in 1958. Since then Ireland has continued to participate on UN missions throughout the world.

The Irish United Nations Memorial was erected in memory of the Irish men and Irish women from the Defence Forces, An Garda Síochána, and civilian personnel who died while serving on United Nations Peacekeeping missions or on UN mandated missions since 1958.
