The Boynton Ranch
In 1900, Carlos Nelson Boynton built a 1200 acre ranch, west of Truman, Minnesota. He purchased the land from the railroad. Boynton owned the Boynton Land Company of St. Paul, Minnesota and owned one million acres of land in North Dakota alone, as well as land holdings in other states. He lived in St. Paul but frequently visited the ranch. He built a very large barn for his harness horses that he bred, raced and sold. He built a one mile race track just northwest of the barn. The famous trotter Dan Patch spent some time at the ranch. Old timers recalled Sunday races held at the track, Carlos and Katherine Boynton are buried at the Riverside Cemetery at Madella, Minnesota. More information on the Boyntons and the ranch can be seen at the Truman Museum.
