1. Welcome to the Tacoma Chinese Reconciliation Park Marker
Inscription. The Tacoma Chinese Reconciliation Park is a special project undertaken by the City of Tacoma in close collaboration with the Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation. Working together, we developed a cultural destination that creates a historical memory of the forceful expulsion which drove the Chinese population out of Tacoma in 1885. Toward healing our community from this act, the park's peaceful Chinese garden landscape is meant to promote a deep sense of peace, healing, and reconciliation.

We invite you to experience this symbolic passage through history, as you Journey to Gold Mountain, explore the Life of the Early Chinese Americans, experience the complex conditions of the time, travel the Path of Expulsion and finally, emerge on the road to Reconciliation.

Enjoy the parks interpretive pathways, sculpted landscape of Chinese gardens and the natural beauty of Commencement Bay. We hope that you will be inspired to reflect on the past, present and future and that you will engage in a celebration of cultural diversity and common humanity.

Foundation (CRPF) is a non-profit organization that works to advance civic and cultural harmony. We engage social and cultural conflicts in order to build pathways to reconciliation. Through education, we broaden understanding and luminate the commonalities of individuals within our community.

The Tacoma Chinese Reconciliation Park serves as a destination that educates people about the expulsion and spreads our message of hope, healing, and inclusivity. Using the park as a model of reconciliation, the CRPF aims to demonstrate how the process of reconciliation can generate positive change and inspire a united community, both locally and globally.
